PROJECTS IN WHICH I PARTICIPATE
MIRIAM ISASI
THE STEP: TRANS-MEMORIES AND EMERGENCY EXITS
This project aims to track a path from the geological to the anthropological, from the different settlements and conflict places of the Republican faction during the World War II and the Civil War. The methodology of the project is divided into three different phases:
The first, concerning the archive and specific documentation of territory and different events in the Irún-Hendaya pass
The second, in which an experimental tracing work is carried out in the contaminated territory, with the aim of extracting fragments of shrapnel from the same period.
And a third phase, in which she intends to transform that shrapnel into a jewel. Following this same methodology, searches have been carried out in different places, with the idea to assemble a collection of jewels over time, related to divergent places of the republican occupation.
We share the video presenting the activities developed within the frame of the EAS-EZE Program to Internalize Contemporary Basque Art, during the stay in Buenos Aires (Argentina).
IZARO IEREGI
TIME FOR LOVE
Time For Love includes more than a year of research. During the summer of 2015, Izaro Ieregi made several visits to the documentation centre of the Benedictine Foundation of Lazkao and obtained an extensive collection of stickers from different social movements in the Basque Country. This material served as an excuse to start working on the decontextualization of the depicted images, focusing on images with a performative character, which involves action, body, and violence in a certain way.
This project deals with the subjectivity in social groups, with the way it is created and sustained, in order to question the representation and perception of images. For this reason, the artist considers it important to leave her own context in order to see reality represented as signs, therefore, to return to zero degree. For the execution of this, she has set up a methodology of exercises based on a score written about a selection of these images. By using these exercises called "Grade Zero", the aim is to demonstrate all these ideological mechanisms of a community that also live in historical moments. The first exercises were carried out in Bilbao, then in Xiamen (China) and now they will be implemented in Buenos Aires. The substance of the exercises consist of different video and photography sessions in which a group of performers participate. The archive, the score, the bodies and the subsequent documents are the elements that structure these actions.
For the artist, it is a question for the future, a responsibility of the tomorrow, which invites us both to think about the story and also to rewrite a decentralized history deriving from an aesthetic approach, based on working with archives of social movements.
Izaro Ieregi (Algorta, 1987)
The research of Izaro Ieregi aims to trace historical memory through different cultural manifestations, focusing on an ever-changing and deeply conflicting social, political and cultural context, observing from a multidisciplinary perspective. The artist concentrates on her immediate surroundings, fusing her own personal experiences with a community that has a powerful socio-political imaginary. Through the many faces and aspects of recreation she looks to the past to activate the future.
In Izaro Ieregi's work, sculpture, video art and different cultural manifestations intersect. Graduated from the Fine Arts Faculty of the UPV-EHU (2010), she held her first solo exhibition at the CEAC space in Xiamen, China (2017). She is currently working on her next exhibition at the Casa Torre de Ariz (Basauri). She has also presented her work in the following spaces: Guggenheim Museum Bilbao (2017), NY Space in Manchester (2016), Getxoarte (2016), Bilbao Arte Fundazioa (2016) and the Complutense University of Madrid (2015). She is a founding member of the OKELA space based in Bilbao.
DIEGO VIVANCO
IF IT MOVES, IT’S ALIVE
This project is born from the fascination for flags and their inherent usage as an element of communication and representation of a person or a group of people. Flags are believed to exist from the 8th century B.C. arised with the birth of Roman civilization. It is surprising and impressive to think that a system as rudimentary as a piece of cloth of different shapes and colours has been so present in the history and awakens even so many emotions and conflicts. Through video, photography and installation "If it moves, It's alive" questions the flag and its different functions, suggesting reflections and examines the themes of communication and cultural identity.
Diego Vivanco (Bilbao, 1988) graduated in Fine Arts, specialized in audiovisual art int the UPV/EHU in 2011. He possesses two postgraduate degrees in Germany; one in media art in Leipzig and the other in time-based art in the city of Halle. During his artistic career he has been awarded with different prizes, scholarships and international artistic residencies, among them the Guggenheim Museum in New York and Salzamt in Linz (Austria) stand out. In 2013 he co-founded the artistic collective ‘Situation room’ with which he continues to produce site-specific installations. Since 2008 he has presented his work regularly in more than 10 countries, in renowned institutions such as the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao or the Eigen Art contemporary art gallery in Leipzig.
Through video, installation and performance art, Diego Vivanco's conceptual artistic practice questions social, political and cultural contexts, pointing out their areas of tension. This investigation transforms his reality into a tremendous factor of influence, which drives him to constant search for new environments. His work is a continuous invitation to question the established.
Diego Vivanco's project "If it moves, It's alive" has been selected by the jury formed by the Bitamine Faktoria team along with the teacher, researcher and essayist Cecilia Guerra Lage; the composer and professor at the National University of the Arts Gustavo de Leonardis; and the curator Leyre Goikoetxea Martínez.

LARRAITZ TORRES
ANALPHABET ORCHESTRA
Larraitz Torres (Irun, 1979)
Analphabet Orchestra is sessions convening a group that divides their practice into two main situations. One deals with talking about artistic processes (first intentions, then transformations and results, if there are any) and the other one is playing instruments.
Surrounding these two and between them, emerges a place of analogies and any bubbling facts for joint research and collective experience.
The performance works like this: listening to several well-known songs from disparate bands by using headphones. Playing instruments (preferably without knowing how to do it or trying not to use the technique), attempting to imitate the songs, while listening to what other people do. The practice is based on collective and intuitive translation and comes from the need to practice a new language (since it is illiterate) through a mechanism where one is both receiver and emitter at the same time, of the very same body, next to the other. Thus, the fragmentation is experienced within a group and enables flexibility in comprehension.
Speaking in such a way I propose videos, quotations, facts, pieces by artists, etc. to prepare the ground where different fields, disciplines, genres or situations would relate in order to delve into ideas such as non-specialisation, art as an exception, or the present sense of translation or interpretation.
Every session takes place under different circumstances that generate unique content for each one.
We share the video that presents the activities carried out within the frame of the EAS-EZE Program to Internalize Contemporary Basque Art, during the stay in Buenos Aires (Argentina).

Piedra rima con hiedra, mármol rima con árbol
Piedra rima con hiedra, mármol rima con árbol is a visual essay on the advance of the red palm weevil and the loss of this colonial symbol of the Indian palm trees in the landscape, as a revelation of the history of our time. The Basque hymn Agur Jauna, in its musical, textual and symbolic dimensions, will be taken as the centre of the conceptualisation. This emblematic piece of Euskal Herria is a hymn of great symbolic weight in our culture. In the progress of research from artistic practice on monuments and biological plagues, it has been observed how decolonial readings continue to exercise an extractivist and colonial role over plants. While they have always travelled, we know that our influence has accelerated their dispersal and now also their disease. However, conservation and care currently only takes into account the native flora. Therefore, the disruptive and symbolic capacities of the hymn on these exotic plants will be used in the production of an installation.

Rakel Gómez Vázquez is an artist and researcher, with a degree in Fine Arts and a master's degree in INCREARTE from the UPV/EHU. She has completed her training at the Accademia di Belli Arti in Florence and the Universidad Di Tella in Buenos Aires; she is currently writing her doctoral thesis. She is a founding member of the art research collective Armar; she is a member of TXT lab and the research group AKMEKA (Arte, Kultura eta Media), and also collaborates with theSIA. In her career as an artist, she has received several grants and prizes for creative work.
Her production understands creation as research and is articulated as an expanded documentation. She explores the landscape as a cultural construction, which portrays political-social issues of memory and identity, investigating the colonial influence on the visual and symbolic construction of origin and identity, and analysing its validity and projection in the landscape. In addition to consulting archives, libraries and visits to museums, he combines fieldwork and the tools with which he habitually develops practical work through drawing, engraving, installation, photography and photosensitive analogue techniques such as cyanotype.

ESTIBALIZ SADABA MURGUIA
The domestic sphere is one to which women have historically been relegated. Estibaliz Sádaba Murguía's work aims to make visible the socially invisible work that women carry out in this space. In this sense, the aim is to bring it out into the public light, into the "agora".
The research, materialised in images and methodologically projected through actions, develops on the genesis of the very idea of the "domestic", in opposition to the idea of "public space", since it is there where the circumstances that have made possible the isolation, confinement and disciplining of women for centuries are to be found.
The confinement of women to the space of the home is the logical consequence of being part of a patriarchal social structure. For this reason, the aim is to observe, question and work on women's relationship with the domestic sphere. As in previous projects, the artist uses the languages of drawing, sound and video, writing, action/performance and photography (the latter being the ones used on this occasion). The working methodology consists of deploying a wide constellation of images as a result of the sum of these techniques. The aim of the action is to subvert this reclusion, taking the struggle out of the kitchen and the bedroom and into the streets.
